zoo day

they knew it was going to be a good day when the birds started chirping a bit before 6am.  he leaned over, eyes still closed, and cracked open their bedroom window.  almost immediately, they were greeted by the coolest morning breeze that tickled their noses, helping them dig deeper under the white sheets.  they could smell fall in the air.

a little bunny hopped in their bed shortly thereafter, proclaiming "zoo day! zoo day!" rather rambunctiously.  she remembered from the night before that her mama would be taking her to see all the "amals" at the local zoo.  she could not contain her excitement in those twinkling eyes and was ready to go.

a few hours passed, breakfast was had, puppa had been walked, and it was time to pick up ali, their zoo companion for the day.  the car thermometer read sixty seven degrees and the sun shyly was peaking behind the clouds.  already, the day had been a good one.

at the zoo, they leisurely walked around to see the various exotic animals, talking about what beautiful creature they would each like to see next.  the three of them were in for quite the treat with the lions and tigers being within mere inches of their batting eye lashes.  the rise and fall of the lion's chest was close enough to touch, as were the little flies swarming his golden fur.  and then there were the hippos and the rhinos and the seals.  such wonderful animals to get to see in person.  such beauty to behold.

minutes turned into hours and it was nearly lunchtime.  where had the time gone?  their feet started to get sleepy and their tummies started to growl, so they headed for the train to take them back to the car, promising a future visit with dada sometime soon.  and perhaps baby brother, too!  zoo day had been a swell day.  one for the books.
