our summer bucket list // 2013

i am so ready for summer, you guys!  and i know you are too.  it is one of my favorite times of the year, and is always chock-full of new and exciting ways to have fun.  last summer we made a little bucket list to help us come up with things to do throughout those warm summer months.  it was a good guide for us and helpful reminder to get out and enjoy those long, beautiful days when our minds were cluttered with the scent of coconut sun-tan lotion and sugary lemonade.  last summer we did not get through everything on our list, nor do i expect us to this time around, but it's good to have a place to start and a point of reference.  i encourage you to make your own bucket list for your family.  you can include things to do with little ones, for the whole family, for rainy or too hot days, and importantly, for date nights with your one and only.  i organized mine below in categories to help me out on days when the infamous "i'm bored" scenario starts to creep in and i cannot think of a single thing to do.  you know that tends to happen more than you'd like to admit...

Little Wonders' Days

"the summer day" by mary oliver

who made the world?
who made the swan, and the black bear?
who made the grasshopper?
this grasshopper, i mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
i don't know exactly what a prayer is.
i do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
tell me, what else should I have done?
doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

  2. Awesome list, and great idea to put all those ideas down so that on those weekends where you find you may have free time you are not sitting around wasting time thinking "what could we do!?" - I find we do that often in our house... Happy Spring/Summer!!!!

  3. I love this list! You have so many great activities at your fingertips. We're in Florida so we'll be spending lots of time in our pool! The best part about this summer for you is that it's not going to end come August!
