good to be home

as much as we love to travel, home is and forever will be our favorite destination.  there is nothing quite as soothing as that first step through the front door as a weary traveler with a squirmy toddler crocheted to your hip.  and then there is that feeling of being greeted in every which way by all the familiar that is home.  the lavender laundry sheets that sit on the dryer just tickle our longing noses, and those mismatched shoes strewn about our hardwood floors that we forgot to stow away help us feel like we can relax a bit and breathe a little.  because shoes all over the place means we are home, you know.  as we collectively release heavy sighs like wind rushing through a tunnel, we are welcomed by each and every little puzzle piece that makes up our scared space.  cardboard baby books, knitted afghans, elmo dolls, spring green succulents, a felt pen here and there, and more shoes, of course, makes our haven comforting to us beyond compare.  jamaica was a real blast, but it's good to be back, indeed.  and now we are smack in the middle of a gigantic snow storm that has canceled school for two days straight.  there is powdery snow sitting on window sills and cars wearing snowish looking hats.  socks are most definitely permitted and movies are just begging to be watched with hot coca.  thus, jamaican photos will just have to wait.

  1. I love this post, and it's all so very true. We got back from a Disney trip with an exhausted toddler a couple of weeks ago and nothing felt as comforting as the mess of toys and shoes and chaos that is HOME.

  3. mmmm sounds so cosy. We spend quite a bit of time away from home, visiting family and I always look forward to walking through the door again. We have almost perfected the clean house before we leave thing! Enjoy your snow.

  5. I found your blog while you were away, and really enjoy it! Welcome back! Sounds like you had an amazing holiday but know what you mean, no place like home especially with a little one. Wrap up warm, after that jamaican weather you don't want to catch a chill!

  7. We were recently at my parents Florida home which is beautiful surrounded by palm trees and hibiscus flowers and the whole enchilada and my three year old kept saying, "I want to go to home"...home to our humble abode, but that's the beauty of what a home is, it just is. Love your blog!

  8. Welcome back gurl! Love to know that you enjoy your time with your family with your jamaica vacay. Your instagram photos are all beautiful and eye catching. Hope to see more photos and stories soon. My absence in cyber world for weeks makes me read your five post in all now, and the feeling reading your stories makes me smile each time, with a feeling of day dreaming that I wish to visit someday every place that you say.

And TRUE that there's no place like home.:)
