calm life // happy life

you want to know what my favorite thing to do on a free night is?  nothing.  well, it's not really nothing and is in fact full of lots of little things like:  making to-do lists and cleaning out the inside of my fridge crisper (that doesn't really crisp now does it...) and dusting that one shelf that collects more than others and changing out stella's crib sheets.  all of that would be followed up with a episode or two of some show like new girl or perhaps a documentary on netflix with my loves.  ideally, in our bed.

yep.  that's it.  notice i didn't mention leaving our home or trying a new restaurant???

i think there is nothing wrong with a calm life.  every night does not have to be planned or perfected like it belongs in a magazine shoot.  i must say i firmly believe a calm life does not come close to equating a boring or dull one.  let's choose our adjectives wisely...let's play on words with positive connotations.  like calm.  and peaceful.  and simple.

with the new year here and ambitions/goals on the rise, we need to remember to slow down a bit and enjoy those little things, too.  we cannot neglect simple pleasures or somehow discount our days if nothing especially spectacular happened, because in nights full of nothings the most beautiful memories are created.

(and the photo you see above is the makings of a candle lit dinner in our home.  because last night called for one.  it was wednesday, after all.)

  3. I could have written this post! I'm happiest doing not a lot at all. Those 'go getters' think they have the answer but they're just exhausting themselves really ;)

  6. This post reminds me of a quote from Anne Hathaway about her husband – "Mellow doesn't always make for a good story, but it makes for a good life." So true!
