to market to market we went this past saturday. we scored some delicious spices from our favorite israeli vendor and lots of carrots. we can't seem to get enough of carrots around here. and then, before we knew it, we worked up quite an appetite. blue nile cafe, one of our favorite places ever, was calling our name and luckily it was just a few hops away. this hole in the wall is a gem to kansas city natives in the heart of the river market, serving the most delicious ethiopian food on this side of the mississippi. seriously. not only is the food out of this world but this place holds a special place in our hearts.
one day a few years back we found ourselves snowed in our first apartment downtown kansas city. our fridge was empty and nothing, it appeared, was open due to the storm, except for blue nile cafe. excitedly, we threw on our snow boots on and thumped through about fifteen inches of snow to get a hot meal that day. it created an unforgettable memory and still makes us smile whenever we think of it.
so today was special. we took stella there for the first time and she loved it..do you spot her impatient fingers ready to get all up in our lunch?? in case you didn't know, there are no utensils allowed when eating ethiopian food. total score in my book. you use the spongy bread to wrap up the spiced goodies and use that as your vehicle. it's super fun. knowing that our little one was all about the curried carrots, well, we have to go back soon. having an adventurous eaters is pretty great. i hope it sticks. have you ever had ethiopian food? if not, we three give it two thumbs up!
