handmade holiday // felt hair clips
i must say, i am having a total "thing" for felt these days. whether it be on garland, vegetables for stella's imaginary kitchen, or on a hair clip to keep back those unruly bangs, i just love felt. plain and simple.
but sometimes, felt things can be pricy, and since i am attempting to make all of our christmas gifts this year (pssst, remember) i decided to make some pretties for stella's stocking and for her sweet friends and cousin, too.
these felt hair clips were easier than expected to make and were very affordable. i look forward to trying new designs and playing around with interesting color combinations in the future.
you will need:
- felt in any and every color
- metal clips (i used these)
- a sharp pair of scissors
- hot glue gun (fully loaded)
- patience & the willingness to keep trying after you have glued your fingers together
*i found all of our craft items at hobby lobby
step 1: cut the felt in any shape you desire. i stuck with easy shapes for my first go-round like circles, bows, and squares.
step 2: glue stacks of felt together, making fun designs.
step 3: cut a circle or square patch of scrap felt to go on the back of your hair clip to keep the metal clip in place when hot glued.
step 4: open the metal clip, place the hot glue on it while you hold it open. (you are now gluing the metal clip to your felt design. make sure to keep it open or you will accidentally hot glue your clip shut!)
step 5: place the piece of scrap felt on the hot glue (in between the opened metal clip).
step 6: hold tightly with your hand so it glues well.
i hope these steps we not too confusing, but if so, please feel free to contact me with any questions!
happy crafting and cheers to a homemade holiday!
