art with toddlers

the other day stella and i made a paper cactus project out of construction paper, crayons, and scissors.  (i did all the scissoring, just so ya know.)  all throughout coloring and talking about what we were making she said "catkiss prawjeck."  toddler speak is so my favorite.  it was fun to have her color on the flowers and base of the plant as i cut the cactus out of green paper.  we hung it in her room for her to admire this summer.  every now and then i ask her to point to her cactus and sure enough a chubby little finger points in her craft's direction.  melt.  

incorporating art here and there throughout the week is something we all enjoy.  i try and think of two or three easy toddler crafts to dig into after breakfast, whether it be on her easel or at the dining table with glue and such.  

this week, we are going to bust out the water colors and make some rainbows.  i am eager to teach stella about all the beautiful colors.  right now, she knows blue, green, purple, and yellow.  which she calls "lehlow" with a head nod.  we are going to add dried flowers to the mix and make some large scale scenes to hang on the blank wall in our dining area.  she loves seeing her art work up and we love seeing her feeling proud.  

i've got some other ideas brewing that i can only accredit to pinterest.  there are so many creative people out there!  we look forward to getting more artsy over here as the weeks wind on.  feel free to leave any suggestions below.
